Planning a retreat in Nerja? Add reformer pilates

Yoga weeks, wellness weekends, hiking retreats: Nerja hosts them all, and the platforms are full of them. Here is what makes the town such a retreat magnet, and the ingredient most programmes are still missing.

Why retreats keep choosing Nerja

Browse any retreat platform and Nerja appears again and again: yoga retreats in hillside villas, wellness weekends above Burriana, hiking and cooking weeks that spill over into Frigiliana and the Costa Tropical. The reasons are obvious once you have been. The light is extraordinary, the sea is swimmable most of the year, the mountains start at the edge of town, and the old streets slow everyone down within a day.

For organisers there is a practical layer too: easy transfers from Malaga airport, villas and small hotels built for groups, and a town compact enough that nobody needs a car all week.

What most programmes look like

The classic Nerja retreat formula is morning yoga, a daily excursion, long communal meals and free afternoons. It works. But after a few days of flowing and holding, many groups are quietly hungry for something with more resistance in it: a session where you push against something and feel specific muscles switch on.

Why a reformer session fits so well

Reformer pilates is the natural partner for a retreat programme, for the same reasons it pairs so well with yoga in a normal week:

How it could work in Nerja

A group walks down into town for a coached morning class, then straight to coffee on the Balcon de Europa: that is the kind of programme block organisers love, because it needs zero equipment shipping and zero setup. Casa Reformer's studio at Calle Angustias 28, right in the centre, has eight reformers and coaches who teach in English and Spanish, so a retreat group of up to eight fills a private session neatly.

For organisers and for the retreat-curious

We open after the summer of 2026, and we would genuinely love to hear from retreat organisers planning Nerja weeks: get in touch and we can talk group sessions and timings. And if you are not running a retreat but dreaming of one, you can build your own: here is a wellness weekend in Nerja, planned like a local. Founding members see our schedule first either way.
