A wellness weekend in Nerja: a local's plan

You do not need a silent retreat and a juice fast. You need 48 hours, a small white town by the sea, and a loose plan. Here is the Nerja version.

A wellness weekend in Nerja: a local's plan

Why Nerja works for a reset

Search for wellness escapes in southern Spain and you will find no shortage of retreats around Nerja, and for good reason: the town has the rare combination of sea, mountains, walkable streets and a pace that slows you down within an hour of arriving. The good news is you can build the same weekend yourself, on your own terms and budget.

Friday: arrive and slow down

Check in, then walk. The Balcon de Europa at golden hour is the reset button: sea on three sides, swifts overhead, nowhere to be. Dinner early by Spanish standards, something grilled, and a proper night's sleep with the window open.

Saturday: move, swim, eat

Morning is for movement. A coached class is the easiest way to start a day well, and once Casa Reformer opens at Calle Angustias 28 that can be a reformer session in a group of eight, springs set to exactly your level. Follow it with a swim off Burriana or Calahonda while the water is still glassy.

Lunch is an espeto at a chiringuito, feet practically in the sand. In the afternoon, nothing. A book, a nap, a slow coffee. Rest is the part of wellness weekends everyone plans and nobody does.

Sunday: earn the view

Take the old path up to Frigiliana or, in warm months, walk the Rio Chillar in the river itself. Two to three hours of moving through proper scenery does more for a busy head than any app. Back in town: shower, long lunch, and the drive or bus home with your shoulders somewhere below your ears again.

Make the morning class a habit

The trick that turns a nice weekend into an actual habit is the anchor: one booked class that the rest of the day arranges itself around. That is exactly what we are building at Casa Reformer, opening after the summer of 2026. Founding members see the schedule and book first, which makes planning weekends like this one very easy.
