How often should you do reformer pilates?
More is not automatically better. Here is what different weekly frequencies actually deliver, so you can pick a rhythm you will still be keeping in a year.
Once a week: maintenance and momentum
One good class a week keeps the habit alive, maintains the mobility and awareness you have built, and is dramatically better than zero. Progress is slow but real, especially if you walk, swim or cycle on other days. For busy seasons of life, one honest session beats three imaginary ones.
Twice a week: where change becomes visible
Two sessions is the point where most people start noticing changes in posture, core strength and how their back feels at the end of a working day. There is enough stimulus to build on and enough recovery between classes for the body to adapt.
Three times a week: the sweet spot for progress
Two to three sessions a week is the frequency most coaches recommend for steady, visible progress. Strength, control and flexibility all compound quickly, and your technique improves fast because the machine stays familiar. More than four sessions a week is rarely necessary unless the reformer is your main training and your coach is programming variety into the week.
Recovery counts too
Reformer work is low impact but genuinely demanding of your deep musculature. Leave a day between hard sessions when you can, sleep enough, and let easy movement fill the gaps. In Nerja that part is easy: a sea swim or a coastal walk is active recovery at its finest, as we cover in an active life in Nerja.
